We believe the best way to be truly sustainable is not to create or buy a new product.
The second-best way is to choose the right, high-quality garment designed to last.
Just like NINA YUUN collection.
With proper care, NINA YUUN piece will outlast other types of garments.
If your garment is defective or damaged, we will mend it within 2 years of the date of purchase.
We offer to upcycle for the selected garment.
Due to its unique qualities, every NINA YUUN garment will have a long and productive life.
After two years from the date of purchase, you have the option to:
- have your garment redesigned (among suggestions by design office)
- have your garment upcycled to create another product at a cost of only 30% of the original price.
Even after our warranty offer, there are ways not to harm the planet, find how to compost the clothes here.
Zero Waste Approach
Every textile and material is flexibly placed in multiple products, as well as those in the next edition.
For example, leftover fabric from cut out of edition 03 is used as a lining or bias tape to finish the hem of quilt vest of edition 4.5. Our editions are intertwined and connected to minimize waste.
For every product, we make we carefully consider the aesthetic, quality, functionality and sustainability attributes of the materials we source.
Our products are made with:
20 % Linen
25 % Ramie & Linen or natural fibre blend
15 % Rayon & natural fibre blend
10 % Cotton & natural fibre blend
5% Upcycled textile from second-hand garment
We do not use any fur, exotic skins, angora, down or feathers that are not certified by the Responsible Down Standard or Traceable Down Standard, merino wool that is not certified mulesing-free
By the season of 2021 F/W, we have reached the point of using 100% vegan material for our collection.
NINA YUUN Selection
Some design pieces among curated selection of NINA YUUN, are directly delivered from the best artisans in South Korea. We donate 10% of the sales from “NINA YUUN SELECTION” for carbon emission offset.
See how we calculate our carbon emission and where we are donating: in the product info section.
Our ethical approach
We only work with selected factories in Seoul, South Korea. These are all family-led businesses (SMEs) with a strong reputation and years of experience in the apparel and textile industry. We know them well and nurture a strong relationship with the owners. They are part of the NINA YUUN family and proud to produce clothes for foreign markets. We can stand behind these manufactures - because we know that we remunerate them fairly and give them reasonable deadlines. In return we know that the quality of our garment will be according to the standard we want for you, our customers.
We partner with institutional organizations in Korea that guarantee adherence to labour rights and ethical working conditions, namely the Council of Fashion Designers of Korea (CFDK) and the Korean Apparel Industry Association (KAIA). Visit this link to discover more.
Handmade by the finest artisans.
Each piece is designed by the creative director, Nina Yuun. The prototypes are made in the designer's atelier in Winterthur, Switzerland. Once an order is placed, selected pieces from the collection will be produced in South Korea. We don't produce stock - because we believe that there is a dangerous oversupply on garments in the global market. We work with textile specialists in Korea who ensure that the quality is up to the standard we request. Each garment is checked before shipped to Europe. Why do we do this? We want to avoid travelling the world as much as possible but at the same time guarantee flawless quality and perfect finishes of our products. Also, our timeless and durable pieces will be a loyal and true friend to you (and your wardrobe) for many years.
Logistics: Main production in Korea / Studio collection in Switzerland
As we have the base infrastructure in South Korea, we have been asking ourselves about carbon emission being generated from our logistics. Here is our current stand-point balancing between our efficiency and sustainable operation:
- We work with agents in Korea that are hourly paid.
- All patterns are digitalized to be shared between Swiss-Korean tailors.
- We source 100% of our textile for production in the "Dong-dae-mun fabric market" and sew the garment in the factories just neighbouring each other in Seoul, Korea.
- We proceed the parallel production of garments for the next edition alongside the main production.
- We ship all the collection and sample garments together, in one way. (8800 km of logistics)
- Whole production of Upcycle garments stays entirely in Switzerland.
All editions, Always available. Made in Switzerland.
Since 2021, we have decided to step forward to make the brand more sustainable. Even when the stocks runs low, all items of NINA YUUN Webshop will be available for made-to-order.
This will be possible thanks to our collaboration with Nähwerk IDM, led by Sabine Portenier.
*Price of made-to-order items differ.
